A new light – The Montreal Gazette, Mar. 13, 1880
Gas-lighting companies seem to be destined to no end of opposition of late. But a short time ago the pronounced success of Edison’s electric light caused dismay to timid holders of the stock, and now a new rival in in the field. Edison’s invention, so far, seems to be more specially suitable for street lighting, extensive factories and all the like. This new rival goes farther, being adapted for stores, hotels, and private dwellings. It has been introduced to the Montreal market by Mr. F. R. Cole, the lamp dealer, 418 and 420 Notre Dame Street.
